Inspiration from properties found in nature to use and adapt in the development of a product, service or environment, or to solve human problems. Velcro, for example, is inspired by the hooks on the ends of Velcro needles. Termite mounds, which maintain a constant temperature through ventilation ducts, have inspired architects to design cooling systems for buildings.
