I am a young woman who is thinking of going into medicine and would like to get a tattoo, but most of them will be covered except for the one on my lap.

Yes why not?

Not unless you plan on wearing gloves for the rest of your life and it won't work either. I think my daughter's pediatrician has tattoos, but she wears long sleeves all the time. Any profession that has semi-rigid outward guidelines would be a bad idea for a tattoo. Unfortunately, people are very critical. For example, if you work hygienically in an emergency room ... people may not want you to be their doctor because you have a tattoo. Even the people who hire you are very sensitive and will likely fire you as soon as they see the tattoo.

Probably not because it's a professional workplace. But Kate Van de Sipra sells tattoo concealer, which she covers at work.

Legally, no one says you can't do that.
