The next ratio is simply the number of followers someone has divided by the number of people following them. A value greater than 1 means the account has more followers than the accounts it follows. The higher the number, the better.

This action is considered necessary because many accounts will follow many people to encourage them to follow them. So if someone has 1 million followers but follows 2 million people, they are more likely to follow the people they follow than to say something interesting.

First of all, they are unlikely to be that interesting when they have 1 million subscribers, but they only have 50 subscribers anyway.

For the average Twitter user, this was a virtual nightmare. Since people get notifications when they get new followers, getting a lot of people to follow you but not increase your followers (because they unfollow you so quickly) was an odd annoyance.

Also, tweets from popular accounts will appear more often on people's timelines and they will be encouraged to follow them more often. This meant that these fraudulent accounts radically changed Twitter.

In recent years, Twitter has been cracking down on aggressive following and unfollowing. They have also taken action against services that do this. Twitter has also introduced a new account barrier, until you have more than 5,000 followers, you cannot follow more than 5,000 accounts.

However, all this still happens, but to a much lesser extent, as everything is done manually. On average, people still follow about 20% of the time.

An additional indicator of the next relationship is the number of subscribers per tweet. This is known as the follower-to-tweet ratio, and it basically works the same way.

Best advice

If you want to get more followers, be interesting and only follow people you care about. Using hashtags can broaden the base of people seeing your posts, which should help too.

However, as mentioned above, this ratio is actually not very useful. Engagement rate is a much better measure of social media because it measures how many people are interested in your posts.
