ISO 9000
International standard for quality control. It is also known as BS5750 and EN29001. These three standards are identical, but are numbered and published differently by different standardization organizations. The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) publishes a worldwide standard and is widely known. ISO 9000 is a generic standard that any company or department can use. This is not typical of the computer industry. The standard is divided into three parts: ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO 9003. Companies use some or all of them depending on the nature of their business. Any company can claim to be compliant with ISO 9000. To make this claim credible, an external assessor from the accreditation body must assess the company's quality system. ISO 9000 certification does not guarantee quality, but a consistent approach.
