TLD - How To Discuss

TLD

TLD (Top Level Domain) is part of every domain name and comes after the last period, e.g. .How are you. It is at the top level of the Domain Name System (DNS) hierarchical structure. The specific domain where the website is located (for example, Ahead) is a second level or higher subdomain.

These domains are managed by IANA and ICANN.

Types of top-level domains

There are two types of TLDs:

  • Generic GTLDs containing 3 or more characters, e.g. .com, .org, .net, .edu, .gov
  • CcTLDs (Country Code) These are defined for specific countries and regions and contain 2 characters, e.g. .it, .eu, .de.

TLD (stands for Top Level Domain) is the name that appears with the second dot in the website address.

For example, in .ca is a TLD. Other common TLDs are .com, .net, and .org.

Top-level domains (TLDs) are top-level domain extensions in the hierarchical domain name system. The TLD is usually to the right of the period, such as .com and .net.
